Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

A Smarter Way to Treat Uterine Fibroids & Adenomyosis

  1. You’ll arrive at our center, where your care team reviews the procedure and helps you get comfortable.
  2. You’ll receive medication to help you relax, and a small area will be numbed.
  3. A thin, flexible catheter is gently inserted into a blood vessel and guided to the uterus and locates the fibroids using real-time imaging.
  4. Tiny particles are released through the catheter to block blood flow to the fibroids, causing them to shrink.
  5. Once blood flow is reduced, the catheter is removed and a small bandage is applied – no stitches needed.
  6. You’ll rest for a short period before going home the same day, with most patients returning to normal activities within a week.
